Tips to improving workplace efficiency

At NOTS Logistics, we believe in the power and value of people. As a nationwide third-party logistics (3PL) company, one of the services we provide our clients is workforce management. It is through this service that we help our clients improve employee productivity while also increasing morale across their team. In this blog, we will discuss key tips in improving efficiency in your workplace:

  • Properly train and develop employees. Employees can only do their jobs correctly and efficiently if they are equipped with the knowledge and resources to do so, which makes proper training imperative. When onboarding employees make sure that they truly understand their job positions and day-to-day tasks. At NOTS Logistics, we don’t stop with just original training. Rather, we focus on employee development so that our employees are constantly developing their skillsets and moving up in their careers. We accomplish this through one-on-one coaching and team seminars.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively. We all know the cliché “communication is key.” In the logistics industry, this could not be more true. In a warehouse or shipping yard, people and things are constantly moving and changing. In order to keep things in order and moving smoothly, communication from the top down is critical. At NOTS Logistics, we promote and implement open communication from the employee’s start date. We make it a priority to ensure that all of our employees know that they can talk to management and ask questions. We then emphasize this open, safe culture with daily staff meetings.

  • Set attainable goals. If you want your employees to show up and work hard day in and day out, you need to have a set of goals for them to work towards. The clearer and more defined the goals are, the more likely your staff will achieve them. At NOTS Logistics, we utilize the “SMART” goal method. Each goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. Once we have goals set, we consistently reinforce them in staff meetings and on white boards throughout the warehouses and breakrooms.
  • Incentivize employees. Once you have goals in place, it is important that you incentivize your staff to reach those goals. We have found that employees are more likely to work harder when they are recognized for a job well done. There are a variety of ways to reward employees for their hard work, including “Employee of the Month” recognition, a hand written thank you note, a raise and/or promotion, PTO, etc. When employees feel valued and appreciated, they will go the extra mile during their work days.

When it comes to workforce management, your staff is in the best of hands with NOTS Logistics. Our team focuses on the details that drive your business and we sweat the small things, so that you don’t have to.
