From Highways to Homes: Celebrating the Heroes Behind the Wheel
Every day, millions of Americans take to the road to get to work. But for nearly 3.6 million professional truck drivers who keep the supply chain moving, the road is their workplace. These dedicated individuals crisscross our country day in and day out, delivering the goods and materials that keep our economy, which keeps our daily lives running smoothly.
It’s not just a job—it’s a mission.

Behind Every Mile, a Nation Moves
Together, America’s truckers cover nearly 330 billion miles each year. That’s the equivalent of more than 13 million trips around the world, or nearly 1,800 round trips to the sun. But these numbers aren’t just impressive—they’re essential.
Each mile represents a vital delivery:
- A stocked store shelf in a neighborhood market
- A package left on a family’s doorstep
- Raw materials arriving at a factory
- Critical equipment delivered to a jobsite
From the first mile to the last, truck drivers are the invisible thread that ties our nation together.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2025
Starting September 14, we celebrate the 37th annual National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, with this year’s fitting theme:
“From Highways to Homes: We Appreciate Truck Drivers”
This theme captures what truck drivers do every single day—navigate hundreds of billions of miles to deliver the goods that fuel our economy, fill our homes, and support our way of life. Their dedication, reliability, and unwavering commitment to safety deserve recognition not just this week, but every day.
The Backbone of the Economy
The scale and scope of the trucking industry are enormous:
- Over 11 billion tons of freight are hauled annually
- That’s nearly 73% of all freight moved across the United States
- More than 80% of American communities rely solely on trucks for essential goods
- 8.4 million jobs are directly tied to trucking—plus countless others that depend on its support
Practically everything we use—from food to furniture, electronics to emergency supplies—has traveled on a truck. Without truck drivers, the country would simply stop.
Heroes in Times of Crisis
Truck drivers are always there when America needs them most. When the pandemic brought the world to a halt, they kept going. When hurricanes, wildfires, and other disasters strike, truckers are often the first to deliver relief and aid.
Thanks to their flexibility, strength, and scale, the trucking industry is the only mode of transportation agile enough to bring essential goods where they’re needed most—fast.
They are frontline workers, emergency responders, and community lifelines—without the capes.

Gratitude That Goes the Distance
Truck drivers don’t just deliver freight.
They deliver stability.
They deliver comfort.
They deliver life as we know it.
They work long hours, drive through challenging conditions, and spend time away from their families—all so that our lives can stay on track.
So, during this National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, let’s honor these everyday heroes. Whether it’s a heartfelt thank you, a friendly wave, or encouraging your kids to do the classic air horn gesture from the backseat—every small gesture matters.
Thank You, Drivers
To every truck driver out there:
Thank you for your hard work, your resilience, and your dedication.
You keep America rolling—from highways to homes.
