national truck driver appreciation week

At NOTS Logistics, we truly value each and every team member. In honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we celebrate our team of over 40 truck drivers. This appreciation initiative was founded in 1998 by the American Trucking Associations to honor truck drivers’ hard work and commitment in tackling one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs. Did you know that there are 3.5 million truck drivers in the U.S. transporting goods to and from locations all across the country? The average truck driver drives over 100,000 miles each year, which is nearly 40 trips around the U.S. They transport approximately 10 billion tons of freight each year, which is almost 70% of the freight moved in the U.S.

Now that you understand the impact that truck drivers have as a whole, let’s shine a spotlight on our very own drivers at NOTS Logistics. The company began 38 years ago with a single truck. Today, we have a network of trucks providing movement across the country. Our drivers transport a wide variety of products, from tires to doors to auto parts. Regardless of the product type, they increase the delivery reliability for our customers. We appreciate the work that they put in every day behind the wheel and their safety is our highest priority. In order to ensure compliance and safety, we equip each driver with an ELD (electronic logging device) so they can easily track their hours of service. We also have safe driving incentives in place; on-going training; new, reliable equipment and an open line of communications to all key people in operations.

How can you help us keep our truck drivers safe? When driving by a semi-truck, ensure that you leave plenty of room between the truck and your vehicle. Truck drivers are carrying heavy loads, which causes them to move slower. If you are unable to see the side mirrors of the semi-truck, you are too close and are in the truck driver’s blind spot. If you can’t see their mirrors, they cannot see you. Another way that you can help keep truck drivers safe is by turning on your hazard lights when you are pulled over on the shoulder of the road. This will signal them to switch to the opposite lane. Never text and drive, as this is dangerous to both them and you. Lastly, refrain from any distracting behavior, such as encouraging a truck driver to sound their horn.

Our team of experienced drivers truly play pivotal roles in driving the success of our business.  Truck Driver Appreciation Week is only 7 days.  During the 2019 celebration, we have shown them our appreciation by hosting a special luncheon, gifting them with custom NOTS Logistics swag and tumblers. However, there is another 358 days where we must appreciate them as well.  That is why a week after their honorary week, the entire operations staff and ownership wants to extend another thank you for all that you do, drivers! You are not only valued during Truck Driver Appreciation Week, but every week that follows.
